LE PARISIEN

So last week I was back in my much beloved city; Paris. The kick start of a short holiday before our baby girl arrives, these days also know as a babymoon haha (love that term) . Off course I had planned a short shopping spree but due to our late arrival (traffic jams) and an early meeting with friends I was forced to keep it even shorter. In preparation of my new life I was looking for a new pair of sneakers, I had my eye on 2 pairs after our last visit to Paris back in June, a pair form the Nike Style Lab and a pair I saw at Kenzo. Well, you can guess which pair I got now.

For the occasion I was wearing on of my favorite dresses of late, another striped number that I also found at Zara. Although again it’s not officially maternity wear it still fits me perfectly. Combined with a pair of flats and my favorite accessories it still makes me feel ladylike in a time when comfort is key.

Some moments in life need to be captured in the most perfect way and my growing baby belly is definitely one of those kind of moments. So for the first time ever I planned a maternity photoshoot, and to make sure everything went smoothly I planned it like a little military mission. Only one chance to do this right, right. Luckily this is what I do best so I started as I always do, seeking inspiration on Pinterest and the rest of internet. Soon I found what I was looking for. Being at ease is very important on a project like this so I asked one of my trusted photographer’s to help me. Together we searched for the perfect location with the best light and background. Off course I did the styling myself, although a lot of stuff I pulled in wasn’t even used in the end, the belly got all the attention haha. To keep things natural and personal I also choose to do my own hair and make-up. Because we wanted to use the natural sunlight we were a bit depending on the weather to cooperate that day. Luckily the weather gods were on our side that day, the sun was shining all morning, giving us exactly the light we needed.

In the end I’m so happy with the results. It’s probably the most intimate and personal shoot I’ve ever done, perfectly capturing the beautiful phase of life I’m blessed to be in right now.

30 WEEKS

Time really does fly, and the past weeks have proven that more then ever. Can’t believe I’m already 30 weeks into my pregnancy and that the end is getting near. A part of me wants to enjoy every second of this special phase in my life and a part of me can’t wait to finally meet the little creature inside of me. Although some times she is giving me a really hard time I already love her to death. Guess that’s what’s being mother is really about.

And after all these weeks I also get surprised sometimes when a garment from my “normal” wardrobe still seems to fit. This maxidress is very special to me, so special I save it for very special occasions only. The last time I wore it was to the Marie Claire Prix de la Mode awards, a evening that holds a very special place in my heart. And now I felt like the moment was special enough to wear it again. This dress has proven it special status over and over again, and even now, 30 weeks in, it doesn’t disappoint.

CLEAN SLATE

So after wearing black and only black these past few weeks I was so ready to make a clean slate. And what better way to break a habit by doing the exact opposite. So an all white outfit it is. Besides black, white is my favorite color these days, I know it will never bore me.

August is also always the month when I start with a clean slate wardrobe wise. I stop buying summer clothes and dive right into the new season. And this year I’m more excited then ever before. Planning my wardrobe beyond my pregnancy is something that really keeps me going (fashion wise) right now. Not that I don’t enjoy the physical state my body is in right now because I really love it, but let’s just say getting dressed is a lot easier  when your carrying around a baby belly.

My first purchase are these super comfortable hairy sneakers. Perfect to wear now with bare legs and later on with pants or tights. They will be the base for my wardrobe this winter. A kick-off for my new style that will match my new lifestyle. Never thought that I would become someone that puts comfort over appearance but I think I’m ready for a change. So for now I’m bizzy figuring out how to keep both of my persona’s happy, the mother in me who want comfort and the fashionista who wants to keep her signature style. Luckily the past few months give me the confidence that I will manage. Just another fashion adventure around the corner.

BACK TO BLACK

And again I’m wearing a black dress in Paris. The first thing that I always pack, no matter what my travel destination is. Only by now I’m starting to feel like it’s all I’m wearing these days. Maybe I can better start a new blog that only futures black dresses because if I could I would wear one every day. I really love them but sometimes it makes me feel a little helpless. Like I can’t come up with anything else to wear, even when I have plenty of other stuff. But  it’s just the one garment I feel most comfortable in these days. So now my next mission is to find a look that makes me feel just a comfortable as this one does because I don’t want to wear the same look over and over again till the end of October. Time to do some serious shopping, and no black dresses aloud.

WHEN IN PARIS

When I’m in Paris I always feel like dressing up, maybe because dressing up here doesn’t feel so dressed up as it does back home. It feels natural because almost all of the men and women here look good.  Even now, 25 weeks into my pregnancy I still feel like dressing up every once in a while. And why shouldn’t I, I’m still the same woman I always was. I was never the one to show a lot of skin, but a  little black dress combined with heels was, and will always be, one of my favorite combinations to wear when I go out. Even a backless dress is still an option if you ask me. After all, get dressed is still all about feeling good in your own skin and showing off the best of you . Gladly some things don’t change, same woman new curves is my motto these days.

Last week is was time again for a little getaway to give my body and mind some well deserved rest. So all packed we left home for a few days on the countryside of France, followed by a few days in Paris. This year the weather was very cooperative so I packed a couple of very easy to wear dresses. And what better to pack than lots of stripes. I love stripes so much that I could literaly live in them every day, and in this cute village as well. In the morning we went out for fresh croissants and a baguette, very French off course. I decided to wear all of my favorite French stuff together, so it was stripes, Louis Vuitton, Chanel and strappy sandals in the mix. I felt like a fish in the sea.

MAXIMUM COMFORT

These days, all I wear is more about comfort than ever before. Sounds very logical but not always to me. I was always the stubborn one, the one to show up wearing high heels when you know your’e are going to regret it very much at the end of the day/night. Nothing was ever about comfort at all, feeling confident was all I ever cared about. And now the funny thing is, I feel more confident now than ever before. Maybe it’s the hormones, maybe it just that I have accepted that some things will change anyway, confident or not. Anyway, I’m always the one that promotes to be confident about what you wear, because when you feel good you look good. And maybe that’s also what being comfortable is all about.
